Building a respectful community for Jersey civic engagement
Lobbi is Jersey's platform for civic engagement, where residents can discuss political issues, share perspectives, and engage constructively with their community and elected officials.
These guidelines help ensure our community remains a safe, respectful space for meaningful political discourse. We encourage robust debate on ideas while maintaining respect for all participants.
🎯Core Principles
- Debate Ideas, Not People: Critique policies and positions, not individuals
- Assume Good Faith: Engage with others as if they have genuine concerns
- Stay Constructive: Aim to inform, persuade, or find solutions
- Be Honest: Share accurate information and correct mistakes
✅What We Encourage
- Thoughtful discussion of Jersey-specific issues and policies
- Sharing personal experiences and perspectives respectfully
- Asking clarifying questions and seeking to understand different viewpoints
- Providing sources and evidence for factual claims
- Acknowledging when you've changed your mind or learned something new
- Proposing constructive solutions to community problems
- Engaging directly with elected officials' posts and policy suggestions
🚫What's Not Allowed
Hate Speech & Discrimination
Content that promotes hatred or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics is strictly prohibited.
Harassment & Personal Attacks
Do not engage in personal attacks, name-calling, or harassment. This includes:
- Targeted insults or derogatory language directed at individuals
- Threats of violence or harm
- Doxxing (sharing private personal information)
- Coordinated harassment campaigns
Misinformation
Do not deliberately spread false information. Political opinions are welcome, but factual claims should be accurate. If corrected, acknowledge the error. Persistent sharing of debunked misinformation may result in moderation action.
Spam & Manipulation
Do not spam, use multiple accounts to manipulate voting, or engage in other deceptive practices.
Impersonation
Do not impersonate elected officials, government bodies, or other users. Parody accounts must be clearly labeled.
Illegal Content
Content that violates Jersey law, UK law, or promotes illegal activity is prohibited.
🗣️Political Discourse Guidelines
Lobbi is designed for robust political debate. Here's how to engage constructively:
- Disagree Respectfully: "I disagree because..." not "You're an idiot"
- Support Your Points: Back up claims with evidence or reasoning
- Stay On Topic: Keep discussions relevant to the original post
- Don't Strawman: Engage with what people actually say, not what you think they believe
- Know When to Disengage: Not every argument needs a winner
🎭Anonymous Posting
Some content types allow anonymous posting to encourage honest feedback. When posting anonymously:
- The same community standards apply - anonymity doesn't excuse harassment
- Use anonymity to share sensitive perspectives, not to avoid accountability for bad behavior
- We may still take moderation action against anonymous content that violates guidelines
⚠️Reporting Violations
If you see content that violates these guidelines, please report it:
- Click the "Report" button on any post, comment, or poll
- Select the reason that best fits the violation
- Provide additional context if helpful
- Our moderation team will review all reports
Don't abuse the report system: Reporting content simply because you disagree with it wastes moderator time and may result in action against your account.
⚖️Enforcement & Consequences
We use a tiered approach to moderation:
First offense for minor violations. The content may be removed and you'll receive a notification.
For serious violations or repeated minor violations. You won't be able to post or comment during the ban period.
For severe violations (threats, doxxing, hate speech) or persistent pattern of misconduct. Your account will be permanently removed from the platform.
Moderation decisions are made at our discretion and are final. We may skip steps for particularly severe violations.
